Not all silver items trade the same way

A government-issued coin, a privately made round and a cast bar may contain similar amounts of silver yet sell in different markets. Brand recognition, condition, authentication and collector interest can affect an offer. Mixed holdings should be identified before being valued as one uniform product.

    Check the issue and purity

Some items display fineness and weight, while older coins may require identification to establish their silver content. Weight markings should be examined alongside the actual item. Silver-plated pieces are different from solid silver, and a silver color alone does not establish metal content.

    Separate collectible coins from bullion

Keep better dates, graded coins and original presentation sets visible for individual review. Do not assume every piece should be priced only by metal weight. Conversely, an elaborate box does not automatically create collector demand. We consider the item rather than relying on packaging or an online asking price.

    What can change the offer?

The silver market moves, and the physical market also has its own premiums and buying spreads. Quantity, form and ease of resale may influence a buying offer. Ask for the weight units and purity basis, particularly when comparing different buyers’ quotations.

    How to prepare your silver

Leave coins in holders and bars in their original packaging when practical. Group identical products and note approximate quantities. Do not polish collectible silver coins. A photo of each type plus an overview of the total holding is usually more helpful initially than dozens of nearly identical closeups.
