Selling Estate Jewelry, Broken Gold and Silver Jewelry
How estate jewelry and unwanted gold or silver pieces are evaluated for metal, condition, design and resale demand.

A jewelry box may contain several kinds of value
Inherited jewelry often mixes wearable pieces, broken chains, single earrings and items with sentimental importance. Before you sell, set aside pieces you know you want to keep. The rest can be examined without assuming that everything should be treated as scrap.
What we look for
We inspect metal marks, construction, weight, condition, gemstones where relevant and signs of designer or vintage interest. A stamp can provide a clue, but testing and examination may be needed. Items with identifiable resale demand can require a different evaluation from ordinary broken metal.
An old appraisal is not a current purchase offer
A document may have been prepared for a particular purpose and market. Read its description and date rather than treating the largest number as the amount every buyer must pay. Bring it along: it may still help identify the piece, stones or metal. We explain the basis of our own buying offer.
Keep potentially important details together
Original boxes, certificates, purchase receipts and matching pieces can help. Do not remove stones or dismantle jewelry before a review. Antique and vintage surfaces should be left as they are. If an item is damaged, bring the separated parts too.
Photos can narrow down the next step
Send clear front and back pictures, closeups of marks and a photo showing the scale of the collection. Describe whether you are selling one item or a full jewelry box. Photos help prepare a discussion, but metal purity, stone details and condition may need an in-person review.
